Ursprunget till Folket i bilds gyllene böcker var den amerikanska barnboksserien Little Golden Books, lanserad 1942. Och de hade tidigt ett tätt samarbete med Walt Disney Productions, så det blev mycket Disney i FiBs gyllene böcker, inte minst med seriefigurerna Kalle Anka och Musse Pigg. Men det var inte bara Disney i FiBs gyllene böcker, utan även andra mer eller mindre välkända seriefigurer.

Från slutet av 40-talet utkom Little Golden Books med Bugs Bunny (”Snurre Sprätt”) från Warner Brothers Cartoons. Två av dem blev utgivna som FiBs gyllene bok på 50-talet, på svenska kallad ”Humpe” resp. ”Kalle Kanin”.

På 60-talet innehöll FiBs gyllene böcker fortsatt populära Disney-figurer, inklusive ur nya Disney-filmer. Men samtidigt tillkom populära seriefigurer från Hanna-Barbera, Hall Syndicate, Walter Lanz, och Margie Henderson Buell.
